AI Days 2025: MU representative at the opening ceremony in the Brno Planetarium
This year’s edition once again highlighted Brno as one of the country’s major AI hubs, and Masaryk University played an active part in the programme.
Professor Atsushi Shimada from Kyushu University in Japan, a leading researcher in learning analytics, machine learning, and AI-supported education, recently visited the Faculty of Informatics at Masaryk University to share his insights on how data and intelligent systems can enhance learning by making it more personal, engaging, and effective.
In his talk, "AI-Powered Learning Analytics for Transforming Education," Shimada demonstrated how AI can provide real-time feedback, predict learning challenges, and assist teachers in adapting their methods to meet the individual needs of students. His research utilizes multimodal data, ranging from handwritten notes to online activities, to identify learning patterns and provide timely support.
“AI should not replace teachers, but empower them. It can reveal what students need most and give educators new tools to guide them more effectively.”
...says Professor Shimada
During his visit, he met with researchers and students at FI MU, including Valdemar Švábenský, with whom he previously collaborated at Kyushu University. Both expressed plans to continue joint research and explore future projects connecting AI, education, and cybersecurity.
