Artificial Intelligence in 120 Seconds: Researcher from Masaryk University at Brno.AI Meetup
In early April, the Brno.AI Meetup took place at KUMST, the creative hub in Brno, showcasing nineteen cutting-edge projects from the world of artificial intelligence. Each participant had exactly 120 seconds to present their work. Among the audience of over a hundred professionals, students, and tech enthusiasts, three researchers from the Faculty of Informatics at Masaryk University also took the stage to demonstrate diverse applications of AI within their respective research fields.

The presenters shared practical examples of how AI technologies are used in their domains, highlighted their achievements, and openly discussed their challenges. Each talk included a call for collaboration—whether in the form of new partners, technical support, investments, or future Ph.D. students.
Researchers from the Department of Machine Learning and Data Processing at the Faculty of Informatics joined the meetup for the first time:
Assoc. Prof. Vít Nováček introduced the work of his Discovery Informatics Group, which focuses on eHealth and the use of AI to support cancer patients through digital health records. One notable example is a mobile application developed in collaboration with the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute to assist patients with breast cancer.
Assoc. Prof. Hana Rudová presented her research in the field of planning and scheduling. By applying AI, her team addresses practical challenges such as university course timetabling, mobile robot coordination in manufacturing, and vehicle route planning. In her pitch, she invited research collaboration and Ph.D. candidates, particularly in areas like robotic warehouse scheduling.
Assoc. Prof. Jan Sedmidubský showcased VisioTherapy: Supporting physiotherapy treatment with computerised motion analysis, a project that has resulted in a prototype application for personalised medicine. His team is currently seeking investors to help move the application forward.
All three researchers highlighted the value of the event, not only as a platform for networking and reconnecting, but also as a way to present the faculty’s AI-related activities. A key takeaway was the shared interest in fostering collaboration between Masaryk University and industry and finding new opportunities to align academic expertise with real-world needs. Representatives from other universities also participated, emphasizing the growing role of academia in the broader AI ecosystem, not only as educators but also as innovation partners.
